HEY THERE!! Welcome back to my blog! Have you subscribed to my YouTube channel yet?? If not, GO DOOO ITTT!! ~please~ Here's a link to my latest video!! (Remember Emma Witte from last week? Yeah, this is a speedpaint of her doggy!!)
Let me introduce you to one of my longest influences, Nerd E Crafter. HER NAME IS JACKIE!! Kinda like mine!! Although my parents decided to be tricky and spell it all fancy like, 'Jacqui' but it sounds the same, okay!! ANYWAY, Jackie is one of the first arts and crafts YouTube channels I ever subscribed to. I was actually told about her probably around 5 years ago by one of my other crafty friends, Elisha from Palace of Malice - she does resin pieces, go check out her Etsy shop here!! Since then, Nerd E Crafter has been the centre of a YouTube artist web that I watch on a regular basis. From her I found Draw With Jazza, who then introduced me to Kasey Golden, Super Rae Dizzle, who then introduced me to Chloe Rose Art. It's funny how that kind of thing works, it's like a tube of Pringles, you start with one and then suddenly you can't stop!! But I'm super grateful for all of these artists, as I've learned so much from all of them in the past year alone.
It's been super fun to watch Nerd E Crafter grow through these past 5 or so years. It's even more exciting that she's almost at 1M subscribers!! I remember trying Polymer Clay for the first time because of her videos, I think one of the first things I created was a little pug dog for a friend of mine. I had bought one block of translucent Sculpey, I couldn't afford a whole range of colours, so I coloured it at the end with eye shadow and sealed it with clear nail polish!! I even found a photo of it buried deep in my Instagram archives....
Fast forward to last year and I painted a watercolour pet portrait of one of her cats, Ramses. She commented, I fangirled, it was a great day.
It's because of Nerd E Crafter and the other amazing YouTubers that I follow, that I created my own channel. I want to be able to inspire others the way they have inspired me. I know I'm super late to the YouTube party, and I know I won't reach as many people as they do, but maybe putting my work out there, as an average artist from Adelaide, might inspire just one other person to do the same. This kind of thing, putting my artwork on the internet, writing down my thoughts in a blog post, sharing my progress with people, it really pushes my boundaries and it's super scary and exciting. I feel like sharing art is so different to sharing anything else, I mean, I have shared my fitness journey and progress photos of my body from 110kgs to 70kgs, so I'm no stranger to posting personal things, but art is not just a pretty picture, it goes so much deeper, it's part of someone's soul. Their time and emotion went into creating a piece that they then share with the world, a world where there are people who may not appreciate it. People who are quick to criticize and point out mistakes even though the person who put it out there was probably really proud of it. If you take one thing away from reading this post, let it be that you shouldn't base your worth on someone else's opinion. If you're an artist, you may have convinced yourself in the past that you're not good enough to post your work online. Well tell that little voice in your head to shut it!! I can't tell you how many times I've battled with those thoughts, if I didn't, I probably would have started all this much sooner!!
If you ARE an artist reading this, I'm going to leave you with a task. Head to any of the YouTube links I've posted throughout this post and get some inspiration from their videos. Create your own piece and then email it to me at email@example.com. Congratulations!! You've shown someone your artwork!! Now try sharing it on Facebook or Instagram!!
Here are the links for you to check out Jackie's socials!!
Thanks for reading!! See you on Sunday when I upload to YouTube!
